Give yourself more credit! I think that was great for a beginner. I liked the shot with the candles and the little boy looking at them. I thought it showed hope. However, the pans, tilts, and zooms could have been a lot smoother.
The part I liked best about your video was the use of the candles. They really helped portray hope and I don't think I would have thought to use the candle as a symbol for hope.
I thought your use of transitions was good. The only thing that as maybe not as effective, was the ending scene, since it seemed to portray death, which isn't very hopeful.
First off, congrats on your first video. But I do have a few comment: the audio transitions were a little harsh and so were your pan/tills. But I believe that all of those will come with practice :)
I really enjoyed the candle scene, I thought you conveyed Hopeful really well in this video. Your son did a good job too! I would say work on audio transitions, so the audio is more fluid. Good job!
The music track and subject matter for the middle part of the video was rather uplifting and kinda had a 'hopeful' feel to it. The camera work was a little less than to be desired. I understand it was your first video, and given that not too bad, but in the future try to make the movements a bit more fluid. Also if you have music playing and you're trying to evoke calm, peaceful, or hopeful emotions you should fade out the music or let it finish rather than ending it abruptly. Also maybe I'm the odd one out, but I felt like it was a story of hope for the child's future and then at the end with the abrupt music change that the kid died and his future and hope was gone. I think this could have been avoided if you kept the music playing till the end.
i really like that the end led us back to the firsts shot, it actually created a sense of wholeness. The shots of the candles really captured the emotion of hopeful. The clips and close ups of the child were well established. the only part that broke the flow was when the middle of the video trasitioned to the end scene. The sound was abrupt, but over all this captured the sense of being hopeful.
I can feel the love, hope and connection you have for your son through this video. All of the content that you chose for the video was spot on. Some of the execution needed more polish. It's a good first video and a nice memory piece for you to hold onto as your son grows up. Being new to video, I suggest you focus on good composition and stable shots, as your comfort and skills grow you can add more movement. The abrupt cut in the music took away from the feeling of hope. Fades in audio are created the same way as visuals. You can drag an audio effect or you can create keyframes on the timeline to the clip you want to fade in/out. Pat yourself on the back. You made your first video!
Your music choice was perfect.
ReplyDeleteThe panning and zooming could have been done a bit more smoothly. Also there were some focusing issues.

ReplyDeleteThe shots with the boy were so precious. I particularly enjoyed the shot of him at the candles -- that really signified hopefulness for me.
ReplyDeleteI loved the clips of your children, it really ties in to the hopefulness theme. Every parent is hopeful of the future of their children! Great video!
ReplyDeleteAside from some choppy camera movement and audio editing the video had some really great imagery.
ReplyDeleteI liked the music you chose and how the pictures faded in and out.
ReplyDeleteI loved the candle part especially when the kid entered the shot. Good job.
